I was inspired to start The Amateur in 2017 whilst job hunting for the perfect editorial role.  All of the job specs listed previous experience as essential, even for entry level roles. They expect you to already be an expert in the role you are applying for.  Now, maybe I'm being very British and self-deprecating, but I wouldn't consider myself an expert at anything. And so The Amateur was born.
In today's language the term 'amateur' means a non-professional or someone unpaid for their actions.  However it stems from the Latin verb 'amare', meaning to love. Rather fittingly this website is not my job, but produced from a love of writing and sharing of knowledge and opinions.  Here you will find a selection of pieces designed to help you feel more informed (though probably not an expert) on a variety of topics, complimentary to your lifestyle.  I invite you to browse my site, learn about my passions, and explore what excites and interests you.
